I Think They Need A Scoop

Joining in the "What I Learned This Week" Carnival at Musings......

Today is Emma's 11th Birthday. Yay, Emma!
We have a birthday tradition for the kids. They get to go have ice cream for breakfast on their birthday. We started it a few years ago, and it's been so much fun! I love seeing the looks on their friends' faces when they hear about it!

Speaking of looks on people's faces.... We went to Baskin Robbins/Dunkin Donuts this morning to celebrate. Emma had a friend with her. At 9am, there were my kids, lining up at the ice cream counter, trying to decide what to have for breakfast. I was calling out "Say Cheese!" and snapping pictures. No offense to older folks, I love 'em to death. But to some of them out there -- Loosen UP!!! I mean seriously! You should have seen some of the looks we got this morning. I think their hearts were bleeding for my poor kids, who were stuck with a mother that shoved sugar down their throats in the morning. Give me a break!!! The first few times I just ignored the looks. Then I changed things up a bit. We sang Happy Birthday to Emma. (maybe just a little bit loud.) And then I made full eye contact with the gawkers, and smiled a big, sweet smile.

Cuz you know what? My kids were eating ice cream for breakfast, and I was proud of it. What I learned was that maybe some other people need a few scoops in the morning, too!

Do you have any fun birthday traditions?
What did YOU learn this week? To read more, go to Musings of a Housewife!

That's a great tradition! I bet ice cream is better for them than doughnuts. Besides, it's just one day--and they'll never forget it.

What a great tradition! It is something special that your kids will always remember. We do breakfast out, but I think ice cream would definitely top that!

What a fun tradition! I'm certain that the pop tarts that I feed my kids have just as much sugar as ice cream (but not near as much fun!). You go girl!

We usually do Build a Bear for their birthdays, but Lulu didn't want to do it this year. I may have to steal your idea for a fun birthday!

How fun! :) What a great tradition. Andrew & I get up at midnight to exchange gifts. We have done this for all of his birthdays and all but one of mine. It is fun and we have cake :) It is nice and even though now we set our alarms to wake us up since I can't make it to midnight. So I had creme puffs at midnight - and just a few short hours later you were having ice cream :)

Well, gee, what were those other people having at Baskin Robins in the morning? Do they have something other than ice cream??? LOL
Sounds like a fun family tradition and one that your children are sure to remember for always! :)
Blessings!

Kristin,

The Bavarian Steak recipe is fine when cooked on the stovetop. I originally started out making this on the stovetop and then later began cooking in the crockpot out of convenience. The steak may be a little more tender when cooked in the crockpot, but I think you will get a good result either way!

Hope you enjoy!

I think they were just giving you looks because they were jealous that they weren't having ice cream for breakfast. "Man, I coulda gone for a two-scooper..."
